Description
Death is Roman Numeral XIII or number 13 which reduces down to number 4 pairing with the Emperor. Thus Death is about the breaking down of structure. Many religions, throughout the world, see number 4 as the number of the Earth the four elements and directions. Earth, the place of birth and rebirth; your life’s journey can include many deaths, many lifetimes. Often seen as a ‘bad luck’ card, Death is actually the card of transformation. Like a caterpillar’s metamorphosis, Death releases her past life of ‘bad luck’ (old patterns, masks and ego) and happily steps into a bright new future. The seasons of fall and spring depict the cycle of life from death and decay to rebirth and growth. Death appears as a young woman dressed in royal purple. She wears pearls of wisdom on the crown of her head, on her ears, around her neck and holds one in her hand, she has learned a great deal of wisdom from her journey so far. Dead leaves fall around Death as she steps out of the dark landscape of her old experiences. The leaves will rot and give nourishment and fertility to the soil. A snake’s skin, shed and forgotten, washes downstream in the rushing spring runoff. With no thought to look back, Death drops a beautiful mask behind her. No matter how beautiful her former life was, she is now open to the light, regeneration and rebirth. As she steps across the threshold, into a new day, she is greeted by butterflies, and the blossom scented fresh air of spring.
